"Are you sure you want to work with your Mother every day?" So went the question asked of my daughter by her many friends. Fortunately for us, my daughter and I enjoy a relationship that thrives on close contact and collaboration. Thus, after our move from Alaska to Sequim, WA, we sought a way to put our creative juices to work with a small business that would allow us some flexibility, while challenging us to learn new things.
The story of how we came to own an already successful business, Dungeness Gold Spice Blends and Sauces, is one for the books. On one of our frequent visits to the summertime Sequim Farmers Market, we strolled by one of our favorite vendors, Dungeness Gold, when Shannan said, "Mom, there's a sign on her table that says 'Business for Sale!'"
A u-turn ensued, and we found ourselves talking to Gail, the wonderful owner who was ready for a change of lifestyle. In short order we had decided to purchase the business which turned out to be an easy transition, thanks to the full cooperation of Gail. Next thing we knew, we were loading bottles, blenders, bowls, and all the accoutrements that come with a business of producing custom spice blends and sauces.
With the acquisition of our new business, we've begun a new journey in our lives and have enlisted the aid of my husband, my grandson, and several of our local friends. Funny how people are willing to step in if it involves tasting the new recipes we're developing with our yummy blends.
What does the future hold? We've already got a list of new blends with which we're experimenting. We've got ideas for displays, marketing, wholesaling, and mainly, having fun with our new venture.
Thanks in advance for your support as we develop our vision for Dungeness Gold.
